Know exactly where your child’s EHC assessment should be.
EHCPwise follows the statutory 20 week timeline for you, tells you the moment your local authority runs late, and gives you the words to do something about it.
- Every statutory deadline worked out from your own start date
- Letters, reminders and guidance ready when a date slips
- No account, no cloud, no tracking. Your case stays on your phone
How it works
Three things to set up, then the app does the counting.
The EHC needs assessment process in England runs to a legal timetable. Most families only find out a deadline has passed long after it has. EHCPwise keeps that timetable in your pocket.
Add your case
The date the assessment started, who started it, and the name of your local authority. That is all it takes to begin.
Watch the clock
Your deadlines are calculated for you and shown as a live timeline, with a reminder three days before each one and again on the day.
Act with confidence
When a date slips, you get plain English guidance and a letter that is already written, addressed and filled in with your details.
The statutory timetable
What your local authority has to do, and by when
- Week 6 Decision on whether to assess The local authority must tell you whether it will carry out an EHC needs assessment. This deadline has no exceptions.
- Weeks 6 to 16 Professional advice gathered Educational, health, psychological and social care advice is requested and returned. You tick each one off as it arrives.
- Week 16 Decision on whether to issue a plan The local authority must tell you whether it will issue an EHC plan, and send you the draft if it will.
- 15 days Your time to comment Once you have the draft you have at least 15 days to respond and to ask for a particular school or setting.
- Week 20 Final plan issued The whole process, from request to final plan, must be finished within 20 weeks.
What is inside
Everything in one place, so nothing gets lost.
Built around what actually goes wrong: missed dates, missing advice, and a paper trail scattered across a year of emails.
Live statutory timeline
Six week decision, sixteen week draft, fifteen day comment window and twenty week final plan, all counted from your own start date.
Reminders and calendar
A notification three days before each deadline and again on the day, plus one tap to drop any date into your own calendar.
Advice checklist
Tick off educational, health, psychological and social care advice as it comes in, so you can see at a glance what is still outstanding.
Letters that write themselves
Chase a decision, request a school, question a named placement, make a formal complaint or write to the Ombudsman. Your case details are merged in for you.
Know your rights
Plain English guidance on appealing to the SEND Tribunal, making a formal complaint, and what to do if a decision goes the wrong way. Appeal deadlines are tracked too.
Document store
Photograph or import reports, letters and emails so the whole file sits in one place, ready to open or share whenever you need it.
Contact log
A dated record of every call, email and meeting, with who it was with. This is the paper trail that carries weight if you ever appeal or complain.
Meeting preparation and glossary
A checklist of what to ask before a meeting, including any advice still missing, plus a glossary that turns SEND jargon into ordinary English.
Case summary export
Turn everything you have tracked into a single PDF you can hand to an adviser, a solicitor or a new caseworker, without retelling the whole story.

Overview
EHCPwise (“the App”) helps parents, carers and young people in England follow the statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment process. It records the dates of local authority correspondence and statutory deadlines, and suggests next steps if the local authority does not meet them. This policy explains how the App handles information.
EHCPwise stores all of your information on your own device. We do not collect, receive, transmit or store any of it on any server, cloud service or database we operate.
Information you enter, and where it lives
So that the App can be useful, you may choose to enter details such as your child’s name, the name of your local authority, caseworker contact details, the dates of correspondence and deadlines, notes about calls and meetings, and copies of documents such as reports or letters.
All of this is written only to storage inside the App on your phone or tablet. It is not sent to us and it is not sent to anyone else. In practice this means:
- We have no access to it. We cannot see it, retrieve it, restore it or share it, because it never reaches us.
- It is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics or any other purpose.
- If you delete the App, this information is removed from your device with it, unless your device has a separate backup system enabled. See “Device backups” below.
- You can erase everything at any time from the App’s settings, using “Delete all data”.
If you choose to export a case summary, share a document, or send a letter by email, that action is carried out by your own device using the apps you pick, and you decide who receives it. The App does not send anything on its own.
What we do not collect
We do not collect, and have no way of collecting:
- Any information about your child, including their name, their needs, or any health, care or education details
- Names or contact details of you or anyone else
- Location data
- Usage analytics, crash reporting or behavioural tracking
- Advertising identifiers
Device backups
Some devices automatically back up app data to a cloud service run by the device manufacturer, for example Apple iCloud or Google Drive, depending on your settings. That backup is handled by your device’s operating system rather than by EHCPwise, and it is covered by that provider’s own privacy policy. You can control it in your device settings.
The App also lets you create your own backup file. That file is encrypted with a passphrase you choose, and it is saved or shared only where you send it.
App store information
When you download EHCPwise, Apple’s App Store or Google Play may collect limited technical information, such as device type or download data, as part of running their stores. That is governed by Apple’s and Google’s own privacy policies rather than this one.
Payments
If paid features are offered in the App in future, payment would be handled directly by Apple’s App Store or Google Play billing. We would not receive or store your payment card details.
Children’s privacy
EHCPwise is intended for use by parents, carers, young people aged 16 and over, and professionals. No information about a child is ever transmitted to us or to any third party by the App.
Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights over personal data held about you, including the right to see it, correct it and have it erased. Because we hold no personal data about you or your child at all, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete. The information in the App is under your direct control on your own device, and can be edited or erased there at any time.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the App handles information, for example by adding optional cloud sync, we will update this policy and make the change clear inside the App before any new collection begins.
